Listening to the Body and Pain

When should you push through and ignore your pain?

IMO, never. Pain is a signal to stop and do something different. Often a result of a body receiving a high level of threat inputs.

When you push through and ignore the message of the body, you inherently lose trust in what it has to say.

Your body is always working for you, not against you. Knowing is is the “smartest person in the room” and following its guidance is key to longevity and performance.

There are many ways to change pain and many ways to accomplish movement and strength goals. Why push through the path of greatest resistance and pain when there is so much to lose in self trust, autonomy, agency and ownership?

Is it nuanced? Are there times that maybe there is some need to keep pushing? Probably, because life is lived in the grey space of relativity not absolutes.

But in general, there are so many options to change pain and change the experience to work with the body and not against it.
